Something Big is Coming! Introducing the LATG Jobs Marketplace

What's next chalkboard

Looking for a job in a language industry?

After the better part of a decade, it is time for Languages Around the Globe to evolve into its next form.

Huge developments are on the not-so-distant horizon, and if you’re a regular LATG reader, you may have noticed that a rather conspicuous new menu tab has recently appeared at the top of this page.

“Job Portal”.

In the coming weeks and months, Languages Around the Globe is launching a portal for discovering language-related jobs around the globe. If you’ve ever searched for opportunities in a language learning or teaching industry, with a translation agency, or in linguistics, this marketplace aims to make that possible.

With more and more jobs going remote, the opportunities for an international jobs board have never been greater, and there has never been a better time for LATG to try to help connect those in need of meaningful work with the awesome companies that provide it.

When I say “language jobs” and “jobs in a language industry”, what am I actually talking about?

I’m talking about:

  • language schools.
  • translators and interpreters.
  • multilingual support positions.
  • higher / adult education.
  • linguistics and research opportunities.
  • language software or resource development companies.
  • writers and editors.
  • internships.
  • non-profits.
  • Edtech and E-learning.
  • anything else that we can make relevant!

What does this mean for LATG?

I’ve decided to do this because it’s time to change things up. It’s easy for me to sit here and write about how much better the world would be if we all learned more languages or if we all became linguists. The truth of the matter is that sometimes I feel like I’m just echoing the obvious, and in the era of social media and the frantically digestible content we all push out every day (and yes, I include myself in “we”, and I’m not gonna stop, either), it seemed like it might be nice to actually help some people out.

I can use the LATG platform’s moderate success to give my community access to new opportunities all while helping employers in awesome industries find the dedicated talent they need. Why wouldn’t I want to do that?

The blog isn’t going anywhere and I’m looking forward to writing more, and networking with more awesome guest writers and companies. Social media won’t change either. You can (and really should) continue following LATG on Twitter, Facebook and especially our brand new LinkedIn page! 1

Oh, and Instagram. If you’re into that stuff.

So, what now?

For job seekers:

The language jobs portal is going to be under construction for a little while. The good news is that you can actually start checking it out right now. There isn’t much to see at the moment but I’m doing what I can to collect new opportunities as quickly as possible, and they’re trickling in, so if you’re looking for work, bookmark the page and keep checking back.

It’s 100% free for job seekers to peruse as many jobs as they like, no subscriptions or logging in with your Google account or any of that BS required.

The site really isn’t complete yet by any stretch of the imagination, so you can expect it to be a bit buggy, weird, and feature dead-end links and other weird, frustrating things. Don’t worry – I know it’s broken, this is simply the price we all get to pay for me deciding it was okay to release a half-ready website.

Currently, a number of jobs available are powered by Jooble, where you can find a greater selection of opportunities while you wait for this marketplace to complete.

For companies:

If you’re currently hiring, you can also get started immediately, and should  email info@latg.org with information about your job listings. Eventually, employers will have their own account subscriptions and the ability to create, publish, and manage jobs directly on LATG. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, I will be posting job offers submitted via email manually. Listings are free for a limited amount of time, and will become paid when the site is fully fleshed out. It wouldn’t be fair to charge for a dysfunctional site, right?

The goal is to have the site up and fully functional by the end of spring 2021.

If your company is interested in taking advantage of a large talent pool looking for work in industries like yours, follow this link for a detailed FAQ.

If you’d like to keep up to date on these developments, don’t forget to subscribe to the LATG newsletter right here, and tick the box to receive specific updates on the LATG jobs portal’s progress.

Looking forward to great things! Stay tuned.
