How to Learn Chinese in China – Infographic

Have you ever considered moving abroad to learn Chinese in China?

China is an incredible country with more linguistic diversity than you can shake a stick at, and the rewards to be gained by those who take the time to study it – be it Mandarin, Hakka, Cantonese or any other of the innumerable languages in China, are boundless.

It’s important to note that simply saying “Chinese” to refer to the language spoken in China can be a bit misleading. But for the majority of language learners around the world, when we think of “Chinese”, what we’re really thinking of is Mandarin, and occasionally Cantonese.

While there are countless wonderful resources for learning Chinese languages available to anyone, anywhere, the best strategy remains total immersion and learning Mandarin is no different. Check out this awesome infographic with heaps of interesting information about living and learning in China, generously provided by Learn Mandarin Now.

Whether you’re just starting out, or consider yourself to be a seasoned language learning pro or polyglot, adding a Chinese language to your repertoire could be extremely valuable and is not to be overlooked. If you’re looking for a serious linguistic challenge, Mandarin Chinese is going to tax you to the limits.

I don’t believe in one language being innately “harder” or “easier” than others. It’s all subjective and depends on the languages you already know, the resources you have available to you, and your overall motivation for learning.

That said, Mandarin Chinese is not for the faint of heart. While I argue that no language is truly easy, Mandarin is quite foreign from the other languages I’ve studied – and from the majority of the languages spoken by the majority of this blog’s readers.

Still, the trials and tribulations are well worth it, and if you can stick with it long enough, the rewards are endless.
