10 Tips for Earning an Income with Your Foreign Language Skills

Earning extra income with languages

It is the dream of language lovers and others of our ilk to forge careers or even just earn extra money with foreign language skills. For some of us, this works out just fine, but for others it can be a bit more of a struggle. Language skills are in super high demand, and young people seeking new opportunities really need every edge they can get.

If you’re bilingual, or even just a proficient speaker of a single language, you might not know it yet, but you may actually be qualified for more jobs or other opportunities than you may think. Believe it or not, there are tons of exciting career paths – both part time and full time – that are available for language lovers, talented multilinguals or even just those with a fondness for words.

This is actually the path I went down myself. Becoming a language blogger has changed my life in ways I could not have conceived of 5 years ago. I met the girl of my dreams, I moved abroad to Germany, I’ve had countless experiences meeting new people from all over the world, and have massively increased my career prospects and standard of living.

So if you’re looking for some new ways to boost your own income through your love of languages, or your language skills, check out this infographic, generously provided by takelessons.com, for some cool ways to earn extra money, or maybe even a full income.

Some of these are simple, and can be performed by virtually anyone with a little bit of extra time – and others are a bit more involved, such as developing apps.

Earn money with language skills

If there were any advice that I would give to young people passionate about languages – or anything really – it’s to start a blog. You don’t even have to publish it publicly, or promote it across the Internet for fame or glory. You can make money blogging – but a blog is worth so much more than just the income you earn from those sidebar ads. If you’re any good at it, it will help you find a job. In a playing field that is becoming increasingly competitive – not to mention automated – you can use every edge you can get.

Not only that, if my own story is anything to go off of, you really never know what kinds of surprises await you.

If you’d like to get started with your own language blog, I wrote an article a couple of years ago about this very subject. It could probably use an update (and it will get one), but the info is still good! Go give it a look!

So what about you? Do you have other ways to earn extra money with foreign language skills? Leave a comment!
